i2CAT Foundation

The i2CAT Foundation is a not for profit Spanish organization focused on Future Internet developments, and aims at meeting the following objectives: i) to promote and foster experimental technological development; ii) to promote advanced research into networks and broadband applications and to foster its usage; iii) to develop Internet technologies in Catalonia; iv) to set up platforms for collaboration between the private sector and university research bodies, and promote collaboration with organizations and institutions that have similar aims at national or international level. i2CAT Distributed Applications and Networks Area (DANA) is currently involved in several European and international projects, mainly in the area of network/infrastructure visualization, testbed management and federation, network provisioning and cloud/network integration. DANA is mainly involved in the following projects:

  • FP7 Collaboration programme: i) objective ICT-2009.1.1: GEYSERS (technical leader, WP3 leader); ii) objective IP FP7-ICT-2009-5 (FIRE): OFELIA (WP5 leader), BONFIRE (partner), NOVI (partner) and iii) objective ICT-2011.10.1: FIBRE (EU coordinator, WP3 leader).
  • FP7 Capacities programme. i) Research Infrastructures: MANTYCHORE (project coordinator, WP4 lead), GEANT3 (3rd party of RedIRIS) and ii) Research for the benefit of SMEs: RAISME (Main RTD performer). Finished projects include FP6 PHOSPHORUS and FP7 FEDERICA.
  • Selected non-FP7 projects and initiatives: RINA, Juniper JunOS Space early access program, OpenNaaS, NSI. Finished projects: MANTICORE II, UCLPv2, and UCLP.

Role in the project

i2CAT is the project coordinator and technical leader, leveraging its 2 years of experience participating in the international RINA effort. i2CAT will be the chair of the technical board in WP2, and participate in the use cases description, RINA specifications enhancement and high level software design. Within WP3 i2CAT will focus on the design and implementation of the security components and the application interface, while in WP4 i2CAT will take part in the design of the experiments within the OFELIA facility, lead the experimentation work and participate in the activity that providing feedback to WPs 2 and 3. Finally in WP5 i2CAT will contribute to the dissemination of the project achievements, to the standardisation of the IRATI enhancements of the RINA specifications within the Pouzin Society and to the exploitation of the project results.
